The annual Graduation Awards Ceremony is a gala dinner event that was started in 2010 to celebrate JB Marks graduates for completing their qualifications and also to honour those who did exceptionally well during their schooling years. Our Top Graduate since 2010 is an NUM member’s Spouse: Madiphaphang Josephine Mtshali, who graduated with 42 distinctions in her Bachelor of Education degree from North West University (2019). The Gala Dinner is attended by graduates, two members of their families and other invited guests, sponsors and members of the media.
Since 1997, JB Marks Education Trust Fund has enabled over a thousand bursars to graduate with mainstream higher learning qualifications (including 18 medical doctors) and disbursed R286 million to over 2000 beneficiaries. Every year 200 bursaries are awarded to undergraduate students, while 50 more beneficiaries are awarded post-graduate bursaries. On an annual basis, the Trust has between 800 and 1300 current beneficiaries still in the system.
