What we fund

In special cases, the JB Marks Education Trust Fund covers learners from grade 10 to 12, but the basis of the Trust is to provide financial assistance to students studying towards higher learning qualifications in tertiaries, including universities and FET Colleges. The bulk of the funding is for undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications which usually approximate a total of 250 students annually or as many as the annual budget allows.

The Trust pays for full-time, part-time and correspondences courses of study. The Board of Trustees retains the right, when selecting students for any given year, to decline an application for selected courses which do not fit the Trust’s focus on educational needs.

The JB Marks Educational Trust Fund pays for the following:

  • Registration
  • Tuition
  • Examinations
  • Text books
  • Extra Lessons in the form of Tutors
  • Meals
  • Accommodation
  • Exchange student programs where possible
  • Capacity Building programs

Duration of the Bursary

The bursary is valid for the duration of the course study. However, the Board of Trustees retains the right to withhold payments to institutions and/ or to terminate the bursary based on the following rationale:

  • Students abandoning the course study within six months of enrolment at an institution will result in the termination of the bursary, and the student will be liable for the repayment to the Fund of all payments already made.
  • Should a student receive another financial aid/bursary, the Fund will request the student for a full reimbursement of payments already made by the Fund on the student’s behalf, and the Fund will terminate the bursary.
