Student Development

Student Development

This portfolio is dedicated to developing and advancing the education of students in South Africa and within the Trust, as well as empowering ordinary learners with information to help them advance further on their academic journey.

The Portfolio objectives include:

  • To empower South African high school graduates with information regarding higher learning institutions in South Africa,
  • tertiary entrance requirements and available tertiary bursaries through annual Career Days
  • To create a nation of learners who enjoy reading and who value the power of education – (Book Donation Drive)
  • To provide mentorship to existing JB Marks Education Trust Fund students

Student Development Projects

1. Build a School Drive

The JB Marks Alumni Relations Reps, in conjunction with the parent organisation have embarked on a journey to give back into our communities by adopting a School. This year (2017), Mbabalana Senior Primary School in the Eastern Cape has been selected by JB Marks to receive the following:

  • A Media Centre that includes a Science Lab, Computer Lab, a Library and an administration area
  • Sanitary Towels for young girls in need
  • Library Books
  • School Uniform and shoes

2. Extra Lessons for current JB Marks Education Trust Fund students

The Trust awards 200 undergraduate bursaries on an annual basis towards any degree or qualification in any registered and approved South African higher learning institution. The selection of students is not based on excellent matric results, more often than not; a learner with average high school results gets awarded the bursary and usually graduates with extraordinary results from tertiary.

For this reason, many JB Marks students who struggle with a module or two require tutoring services or extra lessons to a limited number of students. More funding is needed for more students, and this is the core function of this project.
